DXDiag
From TSG Library of Knowledge
DXDiag stands for DirectX Diagnostic Tool, and is installed with DirectX. Its main use is to perform basic functionality tests of video and sound controllers, but it is also useful because it shows installed versions and dates of drivers, and exports the information to a text file.
DXDiag Report
The DXDiag report can be obtained through the following steps:
- Click Start > Run, (or Windows key + R on Vista), and type dxdiag, and hit OK.
- If a dialog box comes up, click Yes.
- If there is a Run 64-bit DXDiag button next to the Help button, click it.
- When the progress bar in the lower right corner of the program is done, click the Save All Information button.
- Save the information to somewhere you'll remember (the desktop is the easiest choice).
- Open the saved file, hit Ctrl+A (select all), and then Ctrl+C (copy).
- Then, paste that information into your thread.
- If the information is too long to fit in the thread, then you can delete from the end of the file until it fits. The first few sections (System information through PS/2 Devices) are the most important.
