Word

Word, or Microsoft Office Word is a word processor developed by Microsoft, and distributed with Microsoft Office. Similar products include AbiWord, Wordpad, and Open Office Writer.

The default file extension used in Word is .doc, however on the 2007 version of Word the default file extension has been changed to .docx.
